I honestly haven't found French bureaucracy that hard to deal with on a daily basis overall. Yes, there are some complicated processes, such as becoming a citizen. And some professions -- I can attest that farming is one of them -- are drowning in it. But I find some aspects amazingly simple, and the whole France Connect system has been a positive development.

Thanks Betty. I've no real complaints either. Like I said in the earlier bureaucracy essay, for me the biggest nuisance, both in France and in Ireland, is the US tax declaration. I went through the naturalisation process in Ireland--lots of paperwork but no interviews, no language requirement, etc. But there would be some advantages to French citizenship, as my healthcare entitlements are limited to coverage would be provided in Ireland, which is less comprehensive than what is offered in France.

It's a crazy ass jungle here right now. One day, I desperately hope, leaders in the United States will take an interest in the policies and procedures that other nations find successful. My list is long. But I would start with health care, education and retirement planning. But wait...I guess housing and food security would be required first. And the ease of voting...

Sorry, I need another coffee to get through my inbox of horrors. Keep us informed, John. We need the info and the balance.
